Perhaps one of the most surprising horror success stories in recent memory, the Blood and Honey saga continues its bloody good run. The gory take on the beloved ursine has proved a social media sensation.

It might be due to the unlikely combination of Winnie the Pooh and gore, but one thing is for sure: Blood and Honey took everyone by surprise. Fortunately for Rhys Frake-Waterfield and his team, the box office was also pleasantly surprised.

With Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 still fresh in theaters, there are already rumors of a third entry in the series. That said, it appears as if the Blood and Honey cinematic universe is just getting started.

Still No Date For Blood and Honey 3

As of February 2024, there’s no confirmation on whether or not there will be a Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3. The first sequel is still fresh in theaters, so it makes sense for the studio to focus on the sequel’s marketing.

The official Blood and Honey Instagram page is currently promoting Blood and Honey 2. While some commenters wonder if there will be a third entry, there’s been no comment from the producers on the matter.

That said, Blood and Honey fans have more than enough reason to be excited. As it turns out, Winnie the Pooh isn’t the only children’s property in Frake-Waterfield’s sights. After Blood and Honey 2, a whole new horror cinematic universe is about to begin.

More Horror Adaptations are on the Way

Rhys Frake-Waterfield has confirmed he’s working on two new horror films, one based on Pinnochio and another parodying Bambi. Both films take place in the Blood and Honey cinematic universe.

Pinnochio: Unstrung will be teased in the Blood and Honey 2 credits. Per Bloody Disgusting, the film has a release date of late 2024. Much of the project is still under wraps, besides Frake-Waterfield and Scott Jefrries’ production roles.

On the other hand, Bambi: The Reckoning is also in the early stages of production. Also set for release in late 2024, filming began this January. Since Bambi entered the public domain in 2023, it’s now a prime target for a horror makeover.

According to director Dan Allen, the movie is “terrifying.” “When people see a deer in the wild after this film they’re gonna run for the hills,” he adds. The director also expects the film to contain the same levels of gore we’ve come to expect from Blood and Honey.

In 2022, Frake-Waterfield also announced he was working on another horror film alongside Blood and Honey 2. Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare reimagined the children’s classic as an adult thriller. Directed by Scott Jeffery, the film has a planned Halloween 2024 release date.

Not a Trilogy, But a Cinematic Universe

Instead of going for the usual trilogy approach, everything points to Blood and Honey being the first step in a new horror cinematic universe. With more and more stories entering the public domain, we can expect more chilling tales like Blood and Honey 2 to hit theaters soon.

Projects such as the Steamboat Willie horror film are soon becoming the norm. While Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 might still be a ways off, there will be public-domain horror stories to spare in the meantime.
