Shark Tank has seen its fair share of successes and failures over the years. Entrepreneurs walk down those stairs into the tank hoping for a life-changing investment, but more often than not, they walk back up empty-handed. The Toor lockbox promised to change the world of real estate, but did it succeed?

After one of the most heated Shark fights in the show’s history, all seemed to go swimmingly for Toor. Now, however, the smart lockbox has all but disappeared. What happened to Toor, and is it even possible to buy one of their lockboxes today?

What is the Toor Lockbox?

The Toor lockbox was a smart lockbox that could open with the help of a companion app. Junior Desinor, creator, and entrepreneur behind Toor, aimed to revolutionize real estate with its “smart” lockboxes.

The idea was that the lockboxes could open using the Toor app, eliminating the need for a house’s owner or a real estate agent to be present when buying a property. While not unique, the idea was revolutionary when shown in Season 8 of Shark Tank.

According to Desinor, the app also helped real estate agents as much as potential buyers. By merging all the MLS platforms into one app, Toor would essentially become the premier real estate platform.

How Much Was the Toor Lockbox Asking from the Sharks?

Desinor sought a $500,000 deal for 10% of his company. After a bit of a struggle, he convinced Barbara Corcoran and Kevin O’Leary to invest together in a deal that included $200,000 for 10% of the company and a $300,000 line of credit.

Unfortunately, the deals in Shark Tank don’t always proceed as planned once the cameras stop rolling. According to a study by Forbes, 43% of the deals seen in Shark Tank fall through. And that’s precisely what happened to Toor.

The deal with Corcoran and O’Leary never came through, leaving Toor to fend for themselves again on Kickstarter. After the online campaign, the Toor project entered into a hibernation phase, where it remains to this day.

What’s the Current Status of the Toor Lockbox?

The Toor lockbox eventually hit the market in 2018. Differing from Junior’s original concept, the lockbox was redesigned from being solely a real estate lockbox to a versatile lockbox usable in various settings, including real estate or simply enhancing home security.

After its 2018 launch, the product received an average 2-star rating from 17 reviewers on Amazon.

As of 2023, you can no longer buy a Toor lockbox, and the Kickstarter for the project remains locked. The project has been inactive since January of 2018, when the final Kickstarter update was released. The company’s social media pages are also dormant or deleted, suggesting the project is dead.

The only site we found selling the lockbox was Amazon India, though we can’t be sure if the product is official.

As for Desinor, he remains in close contact with Corcoran, even if their deal fell through. After working in the real estate business for years, Desinor has been working in retail since 2020. He co-founded a new business with his wife, City Naturals, where he sells CBD products.

Toor serves as a reminder that not every bright idea deserves a bite, even from the hungriest sharks. But its demise doesn’t detract from the show itself, which has still launched its fair share of successes.
