With his charismatic misdeeds and lovable personality, Austin “Chumlee” Russell has become a fan favorite on the hit History Channel show Pawn Stars.

Though he’s known as the show’s comical scapegoat, Chumlee’s antics and hilarious banter with Corey and Rick have made him an integral part of the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop crew.

Despite facing some serious legal troubles in 2016, viewers can’t get enough of Chumlee’s affable on-screen presence.

Still, some fans still wonder what happened to Chumlee after his legal drama, and whether or not he remains an integral part of the Gold & Silver family.

What Happened to Chumlee?

In March 2016, Chumlee found himself in hot water when police raided his Las Vegas home. The raid was part of an investigation into sexual assault allegations, though no charges ever materialized.

During the search, police uncovered an array of illicit items, including marijuana, Xanax, crystal meth, and multiple firearms.

Released on bond the next day, the Pawn Stars personality appeared in court soon after to face the very serious allegations.

With the help of his lawyer, Chumlee was able to make a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to a felony weapons charge for unlawful firearm possession, as well as a gross misdemeanor for attempted drug possession.

Did Chumlee Go To Jail?

Despite the gravity of the charges against him, Chumlee managed to avoid serving time behind bars. His negotiation of a plea deal proved critical in dodging jail time.

By pleading guilty to a felony weapons charge and a misdemeanor drug charge, Chumlee was sentenced to 3 years probation and counseling instead of incarceration.

However, while Chumlee stayed out of jail, his image wasn’t unaffected. The serious drug and firearm offenses brought his judgment into question and cast a shadow over his goofy, lighthearted public persona.

Is Chumlee Still On Pawn Stars?

Despite his legal issues, Chumlee never left his place as a Pawn Stars staple since the show’s premiere in 2009. Even when his drug and firearm charges surfaced in 2016, there were no plans to cut ties with him on the show. In fact, Rick Harrison publicly voiced intentions to stand by Chumlee, saying he’d support him “In any way I can.”

A new season of Pawn Stars has just made its way to the History Channel, with Chumlee joining the Harrisons for the show’s 19th season.

What Is Chumlee Doing Now?

In addition to his reality TV fame, Chumlee has explored other business opportunities that align with his Pawn Stars persona.

He opened “Chumlee’s Candy on the Boulevard,” a sweet shop next door to the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop. The store sells novelty items like Chumlee-themed t-shirts, mugs, and bumper stickers.

He also regularly participates in meet-and-greets where he gets to interact with fans. Beyond his personal brand, Chumlee has shown his charitable side by getting involved with several fundraising events over the years.

He has used his celebrity status to support causes like helping kids with autism and raising money for animal rescue organizations.
