After the exciting finale of Outer Banks season 3, fans are already clamoring to know what’s next in store for the Pogues.

News of the renewal for season 4 dropped just before the release of the third season. But it’s still early days, and the show’s fans have a lot of questions about the future of their favorite characters.

Luckily, we’ve got the answers to all your questions about when and where you can watch the next season. Check out our guide below for the latest news about Outer Banks season 4.

Outer Banks Season 4 Release Date

Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for season 4 of Outer Banks yet. However, season 4 did start filming in June 2023.

Season 3 aired in February of 2023, over a year and a half after the premiere of season 2. It’s possible we may not see season 4 until the summer of 2024.

This is even more likely due to the delays from the writer’s and actor’s strikes. But fans of Outer Banks could get lucky; filming did begin earlier this year after some delays.

What’s On Netflix tweeted a covert image of the cast and crew filming in Charleston, SC on June 12, 2023.

In addition, season 2 premiered just over a year after the first season. If that’s the case with season 4, fans could get new episodes as early as May of 2024.

And Netflix is making sure audiences stay hungry for the new season in the meantime. During 2023’s Tudum festival, Netflix dropped a teaser for season 4 – check it out below:

What Is The Plot Of Outer Banks Season 4?

Season 4 of Outer Banks will focus on the Pogues looking for treasure related to the pirate Blackbeard.

After season 3 dropped, Netflix interviewed the creators of Outer Banks (Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke) about the fourth season of the show.

The three explained that Blackbeard is a big part of North Carolina history, so it makes sense to incorporate him in the story. However, Josh noted that it’s “not going to be the usual Blackbeard story, put it that way.”

While other details of the next season are still unknown, the creators confirmed there would be flashbacks covering what happened during the season 3 times skip. And since the kids will no longer be in school, season 4 will explore a whole new world for the Pogues.

“We’re going to have new villains, a new treasure hunt, a new life situation,” said Josh Pate.

Outer Banks Season 4 Cast

Netflix hasn’t announced an official cast for Outer Banks season 4 yet. But hopefully many of the fan-favorites from the previous seasons will return to the show.

Some of the cast was part of the announcement of season 4. On February 18th, Netflix held an “Outer Banks Experience” called Poguelandia in – you guessed it – the real Outer Banks.

Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Rudy Pankow, Carlacia Grant, and Jonathan Daviss all appeared at the even along with Drew Starkey and Austin North. The actors play members of the Pogues and the Kooks, respectively.

On the stage at Huntington Beach, OBX (the shorthand for “Outer Banks” for those not in the know), Chase Stokes announced, “Outer Banks has been renewed for a fourth season!”

Since they were all there for that announcement, it’s highly likely that these cast members, at the very least, will return for season 4.

Will There Be A Season 5 Of Outer Banks?

With the renewal of season 4 just recently announced, there’s no official word of a fifth season for Outer Banks.

However, the showrunners did plan for the show to run for four or five seasons to begin with. And with the renewal of season 4, they’ve actually decided they want it to run even longer.

“I don’t know if I could put a real number on it right now,” said Josh Pate, co-creator of Outer Banks. “How long it takes to get to that ending might expand, but we now know the shape of the end of the story. We’re going to take it as long as we can, for sure.”

He even joked that “in season 17, we’ll be on Mars.”

So, even though there’s no official announcement of another season yet, fans of Outer Banks can rest easy knowing that the creators are onboard for season 5 and beyond.

Outer Banks Season 3 Ending Explained

Season 3 of Outer Banks ended with the two major deaths and an 18-month time-skip after the end of the South America journey.

After tireless searching, the Outer Banks teens make it to South America to find both El Dorado and John B’s kidnapped father.

They find him, but he’s seriously wounded in the rescue. The OBX gang also faces more danger from Singh, his henchman, and Sarah’s father, Ward.

When one of the henchmen tries to shoot Sarah, Ward jumps in front of her to take the bullets. He then tackles the gunman off a cliff, killing them both.

Big John then succumbs to his own wounds and also dies. But he sees that the group managed to find the gold from El Dorado before passing, and tells John B that he’s proud of him.

18 months later, Sarah, John B, and the rest of the teens are heroes in town for finding El Dorado. But a new mystery begins to unfold when a stranger appears with a proposition for the group: he wants their help to investigate a captain’s log belonging to Blackbeard himself, Edward Teach.

In short, there’s still plenty of adventure to come in season 4 of Outer Banks.
